CASTLETON, VT. – Three different players scored goals to lead the Castleton St. women’s ice hockey team to a 3-2 win versus Cortland Saturday afternoon in non-conference action. The Red Dragons fell to 1-1 with the setback, while the Spartans improved to 2-0.

Junior Corey Temple (Troy, MI/Ohio Flames) led Cortland with a goal and an assist. Senior Abbie Adams (Potsdam/Cornwall Typhoons) also scored a goal, and juniors Katie Gili (Brooklyn/New Jersey Rockets) and Kaitlyn Ryan (Windsor/Adrian College) each recorded an assist. Junior goalie Deanna Meunier (Parsippany, NJ/New Jersey Rockets) made 24 saves.

Brianna Keats, Rachel Bombardier and Lisa Buratynski each netted a goal for the Spartans. Candace Seguin and Sam Pion collected one assist apiece. Goalie Jess Cameron stopped 13 shots.

Adams gave Cortland the lead just 43 seconds into the game with a power-play goal assisted by Temple and Gili. The lead held up until Keats scored an unassisted goal at16:26 of the second period. Castleton St. took the lead 19 seconds into the third period on Bombardier’s unassisted power-play goal and pushed the advantage to 3-1 when Buratynski scored at 5:38. The Red Dragons answered just 13 seconds later as Ryan assisted Temple’s goal.

Cortland had a power play late in the game, but Cameron stopped two shots to hold the lead. The Red Dragons pulled Meunier for an extra skater with 17 seconds remaining but could not score the equalizer.
