One of the anchors of the conference’s top-ranked defense, senior Doug Jessey (Langdon, Alberta) of the Canisius College hockey team collected Atlantic Hockey Defensive Player of the Week honors, announced by the league on Tuesday.
The senior captain helped lead another strong Canisius defensive showing during the past weekend, anchoring a unit that allowed only three total goals in two games to a Mercyhurst team averaging 3.58 goals per game in Atlantic Hockey play. Jessey blocked seven shots in the series, including a game-high five on Friday to go along with one assist, while holding the Lakers without a power-play goal in four tries.

A native of Langdon, Alberta, Jessey has totaled nine points, two goals and seven assists during his senior campaign. The defender has played a key role in the Griffs owning Atlantic Hockey’s top scoring defense, allowing just 2.12 goals per game against conference foes. In addition, Canisius has surrendered just 20 goals in its last 13 games (1.54 per game) and two or less in 12 of the contests.

Jessey and the Griffs, which clinched a bye and home ice for the Atlantic Hockey Quarterfinals last weekend, wrap up the regular season with a pair of games at Air Force. The schools begin the series on Friday at 9:05 p.m. ET.
