The Buffalo Stars Hockey program is gearing up for an exciting season. In addition to playing competitive hockey on the ice, they have several initiatives off-ice that will benefit the community.

First, they have produced a Buffalo Stars Newsletter to keep their parents, players, coaches and organization informed of all their activity, which is plenty.

They held their first tournament over Labor Day with the U15 team raising money through a Chinese Auction, Bake Sale and Bead Raffle.

Opening Day was held Saturday, Sept. 15 with back-to-back hockey games from morning until evening. The fundraisers held that day will benefit SABAH and WINGS Flight for Hope.

October will be Breast Cancer Awareness Month with not only fundraising to support research, but also breast cancer awarness information disseminated to the members and community. They will begin with the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk-A-Thon on Sunday, September 30.

Teams are encouraged to purchase pink laces for their skates and wear them the entire month with proceeds from the sale of the laces going to the American Cancer Society. They will also be selling pink bracelets for $3 each/$5 for 2.

They will end the month with their Annual Health and Fitness Weekend with a blood drive held with partners UNYTS (Upstate New York Transplant Services) on October 27.

November will find the Stars taking part in USA Hockey’s Free Hockey Day for Beginners. This kicks off the Stars Beginner Hockey and Learn to Skate Program.

Later the Stars Junior team will hold their Annual Taste of Buffalo Stars when they play Syacuse.

Their Annual Christmas Party is a highlight of the season in December with a food drive for the Food Bank of WNY. Last year they collected over 4,700 pounds of food.

Their annual banquet will be held in March with other activities in the works for January and February.
