ROCHESTER, NY – For the third straight season, senior goaltender Ali Binnington (Oakville, Ontario/Mississauga Chiefs) of the RIT women’s hockey team was named a 2015 CoSIDA/Capital One Division I At Large Academic All-American on Thursday, June 11, earning first team honors. She is the first RIT athlete to receive this prestigious honor three years in a row.

A third team CoSIDA/Capital One Academic All-American in 2012-13 and first team selection last season, Binnington enjoyed another banner year for the Tigers in 2014-15, earning College Hockey America Championship Tournament Most Valuable Player honors for the second straight season, while finishing 12-11-3 with a 1.82 goals against average and .937 save percentage to go along with five shutouts. She led RIT to its second consecutive CHA championship and first NCAA Tournament appearance as a Division I program.

Binnington’s .937 save percentage was eighth nationally. She was a four-time CHA Goaltender of the Week this season and 15-time honoree in four seasons. In 2014, Binnington won the CHA Regular Season Goaltending Award.

For her career, Binnington set RIT records with 2,292 saves, 94 games played, 5,337 minutes played, and 19 shutouts. She finished with an overall record of 49-30-9, 1.73 goals against average and .937 save percentage, helping lead her senior class to an incredible 15-2 record in the postseason. In 2012, she was part of RIT’s NCAA Division III Championship team and led RIT to back-to-back CHA Championships in 2014 and 2015. This season, she led RIT to its first appearance in the NCAA Division I Tournament. In the postseason, Binnington recorded a microscopic 1.20 goals against average and .962 save percentage, recording three shutouts.

Binnington was named the 2015 RIT Senior Female Athlete of the Year, was a three-time CHA All-Academic Team and individual All-Star selection, and has carried a perfect 4.0 grade-point average in the College of Business. She was the Vice President of RIT Saunders Chapter for the Beta Gamma Sigma International Honor Society and Outstanding Undergraduate Scholar at the university in 2014-15.
