UTICA, NY- The Utica College women’s hockey team got back on track Tuesday evening as it handed visiting Morrisville State its first loss of the season, 1-0. Senior Morgan Reed (Fort Myers, FL/Cushing Academy) scored the lone goal of the evening.

Reed broke the deadlock at 14:44 of the first period as she redirected a point shot from sophomore Samantha Husak (Jackson, MI/Grass Lake) that fooled Mustang goalie Renee Schmaltz. Junior Gabrielle Schnepp (Northville, MI/Belle Tire) also assisted on Reed’s team-leading 11th goal of the year.

Neither team was able to find the back of the net the rest of the game as both goalies shut the door. Junior Keira Goin (Dobbs Ferry, NY/Hotchkiss School) made 22 saves for her second shutout of the year, while Schmaltz stopped 28 shots in the loss. Both teams were held scoreless on one power play opportunity.

The Pioneers improve to 6-2-1 on the year, while Morrisville drops to 5-1-1. UC will return to conference action on Dec. 5 and 6 as it takes on SUNY Cortland. The first game will be in Cortland on Saturday at 2 p.m., and the second game will be back at the Utica Memorial Auditorium on Sunday at 3 p.m.
