The Hobart College hockey team jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first period and went on to take down Neumann 7-1 in an ECAC West game in Aston, Pa., this afternoon. The Statesmen improve to 17-3-2 overall and 10-2-0 in conference play.

The Knights are now 12-7-3 overall and 4-6-2 in the ECAC West. The Statesmen finished with a 2-1 advantage in the regular season series over Neumann, rallying from a 2-0 loss yesterday and earning a 4-1 win back on Nov. 7, 2015.

Senior goaltender Lino Chimienti (Dorval, Quebec) played all 60 minutes in goal for Hobart and finished with 28 saves. He improves to 9-1-2 this season. Sophomore Andrew Silard (Greenwich, Conn.) scored twice and junior Bobby Sokol (Belle Vernon, Pa.) added three assists for the Statesmen. Junior Jon Neal (Encinitas, Calif.) logged two assists, while sophomore Tyler Wolf (Napersville, Ill.) and junior Mitch Beyer (Clifton Park, N.Y.) each notched a goal and an assist.

Hobart came out firing, scoring the first three goals of the game and adding three more unanswered goals in the second period. Junior Nick Bingaman (Paradise Valley, Ariz.) made it 1-0 4:51 into the game off assists from sophomore Jordan Haskell (Tooele, Utah) and Neal. It was Bingaman’s eighth goal this season. Just 32 seconds later, Beyer posted his third goal this year. Wolf and Sokol registered the assists. With 2:06 left in the opening period, Wolf produced a power-play goal after passes from first-year Jonas Toupal (Vcelna, Czech Republic) and Sokol.

Senior Mac Olson (Grosse Pointe, Mich.) opened the second period with another power-play tally 1:20 in. Beyer and first-year Tanner Shaw (Toronto, Ontario) were credited with the assists. Silard added back-to-back goals to extend the Statesmen’s lead to 6-0. Sokol set up the first goal at 6:03 and first-year Cam Shaheen (North Andover, Mass.) and Neal earned the assists on Silard’s second.

At 3:22 in the third, Jon Low posted Neumann’s lone goal of the game, a short-handed tally. With 53 seconds remaining in the game, first-year Brandon Bistodeau (Rogers, Minn.) notched Hobart’s seventh goal. Senior Brad Robbins (Murrieta, Calif.) and junior Connor Simon (Manchester, N.H.) set up Bistodeau’s second goal of the season.

Neumann’s Mitch Wiebe played the opening 26:03 and made 18 saves and allowed five goals. Tyler LeFebvre played the final 33:57 and finished with 24 saves. The Statesmen finished with a 49-29 advantage in shots. Hobart went 2-for-10 on the power play, and killed off all three of Neumann’s power-play chances.

Hobart will be back in action on Friday, February 12, at 7 p.m., when it travels to take on Manhattanville for another ECAC West game.
