Six Former RPI Men’s Hockey Players Named To NHL Training Camp Rosters

TROY, N.Y. – Six former Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men’s hockey players have recently been named to National Hockey League (NHL) training camp rosters. Below is a list of invitees by team:

BUFFALO SABRES

Erik Burgdoerfer ’10
• Had a breakout year with the Hershey Bears (AHL) last season, posting six goals and 14 assists for 20 points in 74 games. He also compiled a +10 rating with 59 penalty minutes.
• In 21 playoffs games with Hershey he notched four assists and 18 PIMs.
• Played four seasons with Bakersfield Condors (ECHL) where he scored 22 goals and added 53 assists for 75 points.
• Appeared in 129 for the Engineers from 2006-10, registering seven goals and 12 assists for 19 points.

Jason Kasdorf ’16
• Made is NHL debut on April 8, 2016 for Buffalo against the Columbus Blue Jackets, stopping 26 of 30 shots in a 4-1 loss.
• Played 30 games at Renssealer last season, going 12-12-5 with a 2.30 goals against average and the .931 save percentage.
• Concluded his collegiate career as both the single-season (1.62 in 2012-13) and career (2.39) goals against average record holder at RPI, while also ranking second (.935 in 2012-13) and third (.931 in 2015-16) in single season save percentage.
• Drafted by his hometown Winnipeg Jets in the Sixth Round (157th overall) in 2011, before seeing his rights dealt to Buffalo in 2015.

NEW YORK RANGERS

Brandon Pirri ’13
• Notched 14 goals and 15 assists for 29 points in 61 games between the Florida Panthers and Anaheim Ducks last season. Was a -4 with 30 penalty minutes.
• Has 49 goals and 31 assists for 80 points in 166 career NHL games with a +7 rating.
• Played in 39 games for the Engineers in 2009-10, netting 11 goals with 32 assists for 43 points.
• Drafted in the Second Round (59th overall) in 2009 by the Chicago Blackhawks.

PITTSBURGH PENGUINS

Milos Bubela ’16
• Made his pro debut for the Utica Comets (AHL) last season, registering one assist in eight games with a -4 rating and two penalty minutes.
• Third on the Engineers with 19 points on 13 goals and six assists in 2015-16. Was a +2 with 50 penalty minutes.
• Played in 139 games for Rensselaer from 2012-2016, totaling 33 goals and 30 assists for 63 points.
• Notched two goals and two assists for four points in nine games for the Slovakian U20 team in 2011-12.

Ryan Haggerty ’15
• Played 36 games for the Rockford IceHogs (AHL) last season, picking up nine goals and four assists for 13 points. Was a +2 with 17 penalty minutes.
• Scored 15 goals with 18 assists for 33 points in 76 games for the Hartford Wolfpack (AHL) in 2014-15. Had a -1 rating and 34 PIMs.
• Was an All-ECAC Hockey First Team selection in 2013-14 when he registered 28 goals and 15 assists for 43 points in 35 games at RPI.
• In three years with the Engineers he posted 47 goals and 37 assists for 84 points in 106 games.

VANCOUVER CANUCKS

Mike Zalewski ’16
• Made NHL debut for the Vancounver Canucks on April 12, 2014, recording two shots in a 5-2 loss to the Edmonton Oilers.
• In five career NHL games, he has two assists for two points, with a +3 rating and two penalty minutes.
• Played in 58 games for the Utica Comets (AHL) last season, scoring 16 goals with 17 assists for 33 points. Was a +14 with 46 penalty minutes.
• Recorded 21 goals and 26 assists for 47 points in 71 games at Rensselaer.
