TROY, N.Y. – Bryce Milson scored 4:21 into overtime to lift the St. Thomas University (N.B.) men’s hockey team to a 3-2 exhibition victory over Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI), at the Houston Field House on Saturday night.

After getting denied and a breakaway by RPI freshman netminder Cam Hackett (Sault Ste. Marie, ON/Lincoln Stars), Milson picked up the rebound of a second shot by JC Campagna and stuck home for the game-winning tally.

The Engineers opened the scoring at 16:53 of the first period, when senior Milos Bubela (Banska Bystrica, Slovakia/Dubuque Fighting Saints) stole the puck in the offensive zone and deked his way past St. Thomas goaltender Tyson Teichmann for the goal.

Following a scoreless second period, the Tommies tied the game up, taking advantage of an RPI giveaway in the defensive zone. Campagna picked up a loose puck in front of Hackett and roofed it over his left shoulder at 3:49 of the third.

Senior Travis Fulton (Oakville, ON/Vaughan Vipers) put the hosts back in front less than three minutes later on the power play. Taking a cross-ice feed from sophomore Jared Wilson (Calgary, AB/Vernon Vipers) Fulton fired just under the crossbar from the low right circle for a 2-1 lead.

St. Thomas answered for a second time at 13:51 of the third, when Jason Cameron snuck a shot between Hackett and the right post from a tight angle. Helpers went to Andrew Fritsch and Eric Diodati.

RPI senior netminder Jason Kasdorf (Winnipeg, MB/Des Moines Buccaneers) stopped all 12 shots he faced over the first two periods. Hackett made 11 saves in the third period and overtime. Teichmann finished with 41 saves, including 20 in the third period alone.
