Every Wednesday during the academic year, the Plattsburgh State Athletic Communications Office will unveil a five-question, Q&A format interview with a member of one of the Cardinals’ 17 varsity intercollegiate athletics teams as a part of a series entitled “Cardinal Spotlight.” The week nine edition of 2016-17 features senior women’s ice hockey student-athlete Erin Brand.

Q: Why did you choose to come to Plattsburgh State?
A: “I’m actually a transfer. Things didn’t work out for me at Syracuse. My best friend was here at the time, and she loved it here. She told me to come over and that they’d love to have me. She said it felt like a second home.”

Q: When did you start playing hockey, and why did you stick with it for so long?
A: “I started playing when I was about 3 years old. My dad got me into it. He played his whole life, and my older brother was also playing at the time. I wanted to be like them, so I stuck with it.”

Q: What are your pre-game rituals?
A: “Kayla Meneghin always has to drive Melissa Sheeran and me to the rink, and then a group of us will always play soccer before the game.”

Q: What is your best Plattsburgh State sports memory?
A: “Definitely winning the national championship. I was happy to be a part of two in a row. It’s awesome to be a part of something like that. The first time didn’t seem real, and the second time hit me a little quicker, but both were amazing.”

Q: What do you plan to do after graduation?
A: “I want to go play in Europe, but I’m not really sure about it yet.”
